Kermit Gosnell’s Little Shop of Horrors

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell just keeps growing, and with each story new horrors are discovered. I have been struggling for almost a week to write about this, but it a story that is so raw, so emotional, so nauseating that putting it into words has been difficult.

Up until recently, the mainstream media has been neglecting to write about this as well. Just not for the same reasons.

Abortion is a protected issue in the country. Protected by the left. Protected by the media. Because after all a woman should have choices regarding her “reproductive health” and choices about what she does with her own body.

To a point, yes.

But if there’s anything good that will result from the trial of Kermit Gosnell, perhaps it will be a realization that abortion is not about women’s health, it’s not about women’s rights.

It’s about the taking of an innocent life.

For years the abortion industry has argued that a pre-born child is merely a cell mass in a woman’s body.

Police raided the Women’s Medical Society in a depressed area of West Philadelphia. There in Kermit Gosnell’s abortion clinic was found what a grand jury report referred to as a “baby charnel house.” Illegal and late term abortions were performed under frightening conditions.

Gosnell is now charged with the deaths of one woman and seven babies that were born alive. In addition to Gosnell, eight former employees may face jail time. The Gosnell trial began on March 18, but outside of conservative and social media, coverage has been slow.

Empty chairs at empty tables…media seating for the Gosnell trial.

In early April twenty conservative leaders along with Brent Bozell of Media Research Center issued a statement that demanded broadcast networks stop censoring the coverage of the trial. The statement read:

The Kermit Gosnell case, in which his abortion clinic has been described as a ‘House of Horrors,’ could have been plucked from the fever dream of Hollywood’s most depraved slasher film writer, and yet ABC, CBS, and NBC have completely censored it out of the news. The Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates’ on-the-record position in support of murdering living children is staggering in its radicalism, and yet ABC, CBS, and NBC have completely censored it out of the news.

Not recognizing that mainstream media is biased in favor of the abortion industry can only be described as a choice to be willingly ignorant.

Consider the frenzy and pressure the Susan G. Komen Foundation faced when they dared to say they would stop funding Planned Parenthood. Or how the media pounced on Todd Akin when he made an ignorant statement regarding rape.

Closer to home, Ken Cuccinelli’s comments (correct, by the way) regarding slavery and abortion have given the left wing blogs and media the opportunity to call Cuccinelli “extreme” and a “kook.”

But a story that exposes the savagery of abortion goes largely ignored.

Just exactly what was the media neglecting to report?

In the abortion clinic run by Gosnell, police found see-through containers with severed baby feed of varying sizes. In a basement freezer they found bodies of infants.

Gosnell is only charged with eight counts of murder, but witnesses say that he has murdered over 100 babies.

From the Grand Jury Report.

These babies were not masses of tissue vacuumed from a woman’s body.

These babies were BORN ALIVE.

The Grand Jury Report States:

This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women. What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors. The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels – and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths.

Finally, in a recognition that most of his fellow mainstream journalists were not willing to make, Terry Moran of ABC’s Nightline tweeted on Friday:

The twenty-one minute documentary posted above tells of the horrors of Gosnell’s butcher shop. It is not for the very young, nor is it safe for work. But it should be watched. Repeatedly.

It should disgust you. It should make you sick. It should make you cry.

Liberal commentator Kirsten Powers wrote in USA TODAY:

Let me state the obvious. This should be front page news. When Rush Limbaugh attacked Sandra Fluke, there was non-stop media hysteria. The venerable NBC Nightly News’ Brian Williams intoned, “A firestorm of outrage from women after a crude tirade from Rush Limbaugh,” as he teased a segment on the brouhaha. Yet, accusations of babies having their heads severed — a major human rights story if there ever was one — doesn’t make the cut.

Powers continued.

You don’t have to oppose abortion rights to find late-term abortion abhorrent or to find the Gosnell trial eminently newsworthy. This is not about being “pro-choice” or “pro-life.” It’s about basic human rights.

That’s where she’s wrong.

This is most certainly about basic human rights. It is also about the right of the human unborn.

It is about the murder of innocent children.

Gosnell’s case is indeed horrific. One that even abortionists find hard to fathom.

Look at the recent fight over abortion clinic regulations here in Virginia. On Friday, the Board of Health gave final approval to regulations that don’t prohibit abortions, but merely direct that they be conducted in clean, safe buildings with the same standards as hospitals.

That has women’s health written all over it. Despite the screams of the pro-abortion crowd anything less is a back alley with a coat hanger.

During the 2008 election, a sermon preached by Barack Obama’s pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright received a lot of attention. Wright was preaching in response to the unprecedented and unprovoked attacks of September 11, 2011. He spoke of America’s sins of racism and the Tuskegee experiments, and government lies about military involvement.

In the sermon, Wright said:

The government gives them [minorities] the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, not God Bless America. God damn America — that’s in the Bible — for killing innocent people. God damn America, for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America, as long as she tries to act like she is God, and she is supreme…

Wright was strangely silent about abortion. He was strangely silent about the 55 million babies that have been aborted since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. No mention that while African Americans are roughly 13% of the population, they account for about 30% of all abortions.

But in spite of the conservative frenzy in that election year, some of which I admittedly helped to stir up, Wright may have had a point.

How can we ask God to bless a nation when we have the blood of 55 million innocent lives on our hands? How can we ask God to bless a nation when we allowed this to happen? We allowed a world to be created where a monster like Kermit Gosnell was able to thrive.

How can we ask for blessing when we know these things?

When we know that a fetus has a unique DNA. When we know that a heartbeat can be detected as early as six weeks, sometimes even before a woman knows she’s pregnant. When we know that “viability” is a false argument because, unless the process is unnaturally stopped, a fetus is as “viable” as you or me.

When we know all of these things, arguing that abortion is about “women’s health” is pure, unadulterated bull shit.

The abortionists won’t want to hear this, but Kermit Gosnell is one of yours. He’s your mascot. He’s your patron saint.

You may protest that it is not the same, but your position is indefensible.

Abortion is murder. Kermit Gosnell is a murderer.

He’s not alone. He may be the most gruesome example that (God help us) we’re aware of. But he’s not alone.

So it’s not “God bless America.”

It’s not “God damn America.”

It’s “God have mercy for we have sinned.”
