Unqualified home buyers were not the only ones who benefited from Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank’s efforts to deregulate Fannie Mae throughout the 1990s.
So did Frank’s “partner”, a Fannie Mae executive at the forefront of the agency’s push to relax lending restrictions.
Gee, it seems that Barney Frank was receiving favors all over the place. […]
Though many of you may have seen this elsewhere, i’ll bring it up here for those who don’t venture far off the VA conservative blogosphere (other than coming here of course).

[The Write Side of My Brain] I wish my Congressman had said this
I have to say, he’s still got my vote, but I’m very disappointed that Eric Cantor voted twice this week (that’s twice) for the bailout bill. Yes, I’ve heard his explanations.
I should add that I was equally disappointed with Senator McCain’s vote in the Senate, although less surprised. While we’ve said for a […]

Fantastic commentary in reaction to the bailout flameout (NRO - The Corner, emphasis in original):
I, too, must respectfully dissent. The proper question at this moment, it seems to me, is why so many Republicans thought it necessary to vote for a horrible piece of legislation, not how to assign the “blame” for its bipartisan defeat. […]

The Whte House’s treatment of Leslie Carbone tells me they have forgotten the elemental lesson from Lyndon Johnson.
You know, the one about the tent . . .
Check out the list of those who voted for the bailout. They went against the wishes of many of their constituents and should be held accountable on Election Day.

I sometimes wondered when this was gonna happen.
ISLE OF WIGHT - A man was apparently shot during a Civil War re-enactment over the weekend in Isle of Wight County.
The 72-year-old man, who was not identified by police, was apparently shot during a re-enactment at Heritage Park. He was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
The House Republican leadership is going for the deal, even as Minority Leader John Boehner calls it a “crap sandwich” (Below The Beltway).
I prefer Mike Pence.
Based on this, it looks like this thing will be passed tomorrow (or Tuesday, depending on how long the Senate will take with it). The restrictions on corporate salaries and the […]
The fall of Washington Mutual and the worry surrounding Wachovia have moved the polls on support of the bailout - down (Rasmussen):
The more voters learn about the proposed $700-billion taxpayer-backed Wall Street rescue plan, the less they like it. Most voters remain largely unworried about their own money, too.
Just 24% of U.S. voters now favor […]
Opening October 3rd. Go see it. It looks hilarious.
Instead of using cow milk, PETA wants Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream makers to use human breast milk. I wonder if they consider the disease or drugs that can be passed through human breast milk?
If Ben and Jerry’s does this, I will start a campaign boycotting their products. I can sacrifice my monthly Cherry […]
Although Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden routinely mocks his Republican counterpart, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, for her onetime support of the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere,” Biden and his running mate voted to keep the project alive twice. What are the chances that this will make the front page?

The New York Yankees will miss the postseason for the first time since starting their run in 1995. Mike Mussina pitched five shutout innings to earn his 19th win, Jason Giambi homered and the Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Great letter for Rep. J. Randy Forbes (R-VA04):
September 23, 2008

Dear Secretary Paulson:
Thank you …
I have a feeling Joe Biden was having a bad day when he said FDR was in charge during the Stock Market Crisis, when it was President Herbert Hoover, who was in charge when the stock market crashed in 1929.
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk […]
I can’t believe I missed this from July, but here it is from the Wall Street Journal (h/t Riley at VV, but even he missed this one, emphasis in original):
