Consider the New York Times’ Paul Krugman (pictured above).
Krugman writes screeds such as these, and you have to wonder whether or not, if one merely substituted the word Republican every time you see Democrat, conservative for liberal and so on, whether or not it would perform just like any average tirade one might find from Ann Coulter. An example:
Here’s what I learned: Republican institutions don’t protect against tyranny when powerful people start defying political norms. And tyranny, when it comes, can flourish even while maintaining a republican facade.
…said every Republican in 2009.
Of course, what this illustrates is the total facade Krugman et al. really have for process vs. power. So long as the balance of power is tilted in their favor, elections have consequences and process be damned. Lose this power? All of the sudden, those protections found in the Federalist Papers about checks and balances seem to make a hell of a lot of sense.
